Level of difficulty
At BerthyKnit, I strive to make all patterns as simple and accessible as possible – whether you’re a beginner or an experienced knitter.
With a background in journalism, I pay special attention to writing patterns that are clear and easy to understand. I do my best to explain the techniques used, so you’ll feel guided and supported every step of the way.
Creating tutorial videos is on my to-do list, but in the meantime, I recommend YouTube, where you can find all kinds of video guides if you get stuck or need to see a technique demonstrated visually.
My patterns are divided into five difficulty levels:
1. Beginner – For those just starting out
At this level, anyone can join in, as these patterns don’t require any special techniques – you just need to know how to knit and purl. There are few or no decreases, increases, or finishing required.
2. Easy – For those who have mastered the basics
Here, you’ll need to know a bit more than just knit and purl. Simple techniques like ribbing, increases, decreases, and maybe a bit of finishing are introduced. Abbreviations are used but always explained thoroughly the first time they appear.
3. Intermediate – For those with some experience or looking for a challenge
These patterns require solid knitting skills and a bit more attention. You might encounter colorwork, texture patterns, short rows, or Italian bind-offs.
4. Experienced – For knitters who are comfortable with many techniques
You’ll need experience with a range of knitting techniques and a high level of focus and precision. Patterns at this level may combine several advanced techniques, such as increases worked simultaneously with short rows.
5. Advanced – For seasoned knitters who love detail and technique
You’ll need to be good at keeping track of complex patterns. These are design-heavy projects where construction, fit, and pattern come together seamlessly. You may encounter complex combinations of techniques or advanced double knitting.
You’re always welcome to reach out if you have any questions!
